MLB team Mets Pelfrey to start as El Duque is ailing |

The MLB team New York Mets made Mike Pelfrey their fifth starter Sunday, which means RHP Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez, who has been bothered by a foot issue, likely will start the season on the 15-day DL. Hernandez and Pelfrey were battling for the final rotation spot, which will come into play for the first time Saturday when the MLB team Mets visit MLB team Atlanta. Analysis: Many people thought Pelfrey had lost out to Hernandez for the final rotation spot with the MLB team Mets, but those folks were all proved wrong Sunday with this decision. Pelfrey struggled most of the spring and could eventually find himself in the minors when Hernandez gets himself healthy. Consider him a sleeper in NL-only formats for now, but he might only be of real use for the first couple of weeks of the season. As for Hernandez, he still has some value in NL-only formats because he's likely to inherit the No. 5 job if Pelfrey fails to impress enough early. |
