NHL teamTalk about a team with delayed destiny. As far as NHL teams go, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been snake bit for an incredibly long time. In hockey history, they are a very winning team--a true power house in the league. In fact, they stood out or dominated against many other NHL team franchises for years and years. So, why are they not making their mark these days? Well, their excuses are legion. However, in the past when Toronto was going strong (they were one of the original six hockey teams) they sometimes controlled other NHL team organizations for years by keeping them from hockey's holy grail, the Stanley Cup. Often, Toronto and Montreal would battle each other in great rival matches (Montreal is the only team to have won the Stanley Cup more than Toronto, and Montreal is significantly ahead--a true dynasty team in hockey lore.) However, regardless of past prowess, Toronto hasn't won the NHL team championship since 1967! That's one serious NHL team championship drought (Yes, I realize some baseball teams have endured longer droughts). But, the Leafs come from a huge Canadian city, and they should have the resources to float a winner. If there's any good news, it's that this year they're actually making a run for the cup, and who knows, they make shake the jinx yet.
