Face it. The MLB team Boston Red Sox are hot. Love them or hate them (New York Yankees fans), you have to admit they’re playing some of the best baseball in the league right now.
With Monday night’s win over the lifeless MLB team Cleveland Indians, Boston has now won 11 straight, including an undefeated 9-0 home stand capped off by a three-game sweep of the MLB team New York Yankees.
First baseman Kevin Youkilis is leading the Boston MLB team on offense with 5 homers and a .414 batting average. Outfielder Jason Bay has nine hits with two homers and nine RBI in his last four games and just has been tattooing closers lately. Bay went deep on a two-run homer in the ninth on April 25 against Yankees star Mariano Rivera and hit a three-run shot in the ninth against Kerry Wood in Cleveland on April 27. Third baseman Mike Lowell has 23 hits and 22 RBI in just 18 games. With this much production already, it’s scary to think that David “Big Papi” Ortiz hasn’t quite warmed up yet this season.
Red Sox pitching has so many options it’s crazy—starters Josh Beckett, Jon Lester and Tim Wakefield, relievers Manny Delcarmen and Ramon Ramirez, and closer Jonathan Papelbon, arguably one of the best in baseball. Newcomers Hunter Jones and Justin Masterson have been impressive, too. With a combined 4.18 ERA, Red Sox pitchers are proving effective against some of baseball’s most intimidating MLB team offenses.
Yes, it’s only two weeks into the MLB season. Yes, there’s a lot more baseball to be played. Yes, it’s possible that the streak could end at any time. For now, though, Red Sox Nation rules.
