sportsIf you are interested in sports, you are in good company in the US. This is a country of sports lovers and most of Sunday television is devoted to sports. People don't think about car racing as a fitness sport, but those drivers have to be incredibly strong and in good shape to drive those cars at high speeds. One study from 2002 found that the race car drivers were as aerobically fit as professional baseball, football, and basketball players. Drivers need to be strong enough to control their cars at very high speeds going around tight curves, and this takes not only brute strength, but also lots of endurance because there could be hundreds of laps that they have to make during a race around a track.

The drivers train rigorously while off the track. Not only do they need to be strong, they also need to have fast reflexes to make lightening quick decisions on the track. Even their team has to be in good shape to make speedy repairs on the cars, mount new tires, or replace parts as fast as they can. When I watch sports on TV, I often think about how difficult sports car racing must be. All team sports information says unlike football or hockey, these drivers have to navigate those heavy cars and keep themselves and others safe.
