Thigpen, in his third season out of Coastal Carolina, played 14 games and made 11 starts for the NFL team Chiefs last year. He was dropped to a backup spot in training camp this summer when Kansas City acquired Matt Cassel from the New England Patriots.

Last year Thigpen completed 54.8 percent of his passes for 2,608 yards with 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He has not thrown a pass this season.

Thigpen is expected to be the No. 3 in Miami behind Chad Henne and Pat White.
